Acne is usually related to hormonal changes and increased oil production by the skin, however, it can also be due to stress, or other psychological problems.

People with mild cases of acne may experience an improvement in symptoms from mind/body techniques such as hypnosis to help alleviate feelings of anxiety and depression that some individuals experience with this skin condition. Expect to hypnotherapy for at least 6 to 8 weeks before seeing a noticeable improvement in symptoms.

When a person is hypnotized they enter a hypnotic trance which is an advanced state of relaxation where body chemistry changes. This system relaxes the person's conscious mind and makes the unconscious mind accessible. It is powerful but not a cure-all. However, it helps to control pain, reduce stress and aid healing. It is also believed that hypnosis can prevent the scarring of the face associated with the acne.

Trichotillomania (Trichotillosis - Compulsive Hair Pulling)

Trichotillomania is the compulsive act of pulling ones own hair; this can occur on the scalp or other parts of the head (as in eyelashes, beard, facial hair, nose hair) or bodily hair and in extreme cases can lead to bald patches.

Trichotillomania often occurs as a result of stress and anxiety and can become habitual. It has been classified as an impulse control disorder and linked to obsessive compulsive disorder.

In its early stages sufferers often don't even realize that they are pulling their hair and it can take someone else to point out their habit, by which time it has usually become an established pattern of behaviour.
